I aim to work just as hard as a member of the California Senate as I do at my current job and as the voters do.  This is a very important time for California and our country so please choose wisely in the voting booth and elect Jacob Mason to California Senate for universal healthcare and a strong economy.

The Genesis

I'm originally from New England. I started life in the better Portland, so-called. Growing up I wanted to be a professional rock star, but earn a degree in jazz to fall back on. However, it turned out I was not prepared for the sight singing and ear training, and I began to look at other things to do. I went to school for carpentry while working as a carpentry laborer, but again I don’t think I was prepared to succeed with that. Eventually I figured out that I was best at economics and  I graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a BA in Economics.

After graduating from college about 3,000 miles from Sacramento I didn’t find that my degree did anything and I couldn’t afford more education, and didn’t want to borrow a lot of money to get further degrees. Right away I went to work on a dairy farm, where I did things like churn butter, but after I couldn’t take farm work anymore I found work as a gas station clerk working the overnight shift at Circle K, with the store open to the public.

One night after 2 years I was abruptly fired from my job as a gas station clerk for no good reason. The district supervisor claimed that I quit, but he lied and I ended up getting unemployment benefits. When I lost my job I had just started taking college classes, and that made it difficult to find work with the schedule conflicts. After several months of not finding work I received a letter that said I could continue to receive unemployment benefits while attending school and not look for a job. So I decided to do a 3 day a week program to earn my Class A CDL.

I attended the New England Tractor Training School and did the 540 hour certificate program there, graduating, and getting my CDL A. Then I decided I should move to Florida to find work. Although I couldn’t find anything in the Jacksonville area, I found employment as an over the road truck driver for Swift Transportation with my home terminal in South Carolina. However, I wasn’t that good of a truck driver and I lost that job, and this time it was my fault so no hope of getting unemployment compensation. I then moved from Northern Florida to Northern California to find work. I found gainful employment in manufacturing here and I currently work full-time in manufacturing. But I’m mostly working with my body not my mind at my job and I’d appreciate the opportunity to do more with my education as an elected official.

“No country, however rich, can afford the waste of its human resources. Demoralization caused by vast unemployment is our greatest extravagance. Morally, it is the greatest menace to our social order.”

— Franklin Delano Roosevelt

I believe in the power of a good slogan. At this time all of my merchandise centers around my support for universal healthcare. My simple position is that I am in favor of SB 562, but speaking to members of the California Assembly I expressed a somewhat more nuanced position, pointing out that the bill did not say anything about international coverage and that would be needed. I am somebody who would read proposed bills and work to make them as perfect as they can be.

My mission

If elected to the California Senate I have a very large agenda which I am promoting. This is shown in my many positions, but I surely have positions which haven't been written. I'm against lowering the salary of politicians in California and I aim to earn every penny of that salary if elected, and would even use a good percentage of it for seeing my positions to their becoming law, implementing them, and researching about what needs to be done, and also attracting jobs to the area which would likely require travel. If elected I pledge to treat the California Senate as a full-time job and not have a side career, although I would like to attend law school part-time while I serve the public if I win.

The number of years of petroleum on Earth

The number of years of natural gas on Earth

The amount of power I'd like to see generated from green energy sources

Like I said, I'm an ordinary blue collar worker with a BA and my CDL A. But there's more to me than just that.

There's a lot more to my life and my perspective on the world.

Change The system
